On September 24, 2007 the world lost a great man, with an exceptional mind. Joshua James Vick. There was no fanfare, no media, and sadly he was alone when he left us behind. On April 26th 2008 at 3:00 his friends, family, and loved ones held a memorial for him on his Woods creek claim. Those who chose to do so shared their stories of Josh and how they came to know him. Among these were a married couple who found enough gold to make their wedding bands, a teacher who had been among the many who brought their students to learn from Josh. Josh’s brother Mason’s also attended, giving him a ‘Masonic service’. Laurie Branigan sang from her heart in memory of him. ~ Amy E. Vick

A little more than a year ago Josh got a severe illness that was never identified entirely, but it attacked his liver, kidneys, pituitary gland, and who knows what else. Quite probably his heart and lungs were also damaged. Even though he was hospitalized for a short time they (the doctors) did not check his heart or lungs. - in May Josh began waking at night complaining that his arm had fallen asleep. Both of us wrote it off to overwork (the work of shoveling had just begun) and he had previous nerve damage on his elbow. Then about June he experienced a chest pain which he said indicated that he needed to take off some weight. - late July he started going into a manic phase again. August 29th, he told my brother that he was walking to the hospital and that was the last that he was seen. His ‘remains’ were found on September 24th in a field area of our property. ... It is my thought that his heart was effected from the "bug" that he had gotten a year or more back, the arm which had been falling asleep was his left arm (hind sight being 20/20, I know that it should have worried me)
